Martyn Beardsley biography
Martyn Beardsley is a Nottingham author who made his breakthrough with the successful Sir Gadabout series for children. He has written numerous children's fiction and non-fiction books and is now looking more towards the adult market. History is his main passion; he has written a biography of the Arctic explorer Sir John Franklin (Deadly Winter) and transcribed and co-edited Grateful to Providence, the diaries of the eighteenth century surgeon apothecary Matthew Flinders, father of the explorer of the same name. His most recent works are A Matter of Honour, the true story of England's last fatal duel, and Murder in Montague Place, a Victorian detective novel.
How I Found the Agency
I had been in touch with Andrew Lownie a couple of years previously and was pleased and flattered to find that his son was a Sir Gadabout fan. I found Andrew to be not only professional and dynamic, but also extremely very helpful and friendly. Anyone with experience of trying to find publishers and agents will know that those latter qualities aren't exactly common, and are sadly becoming less and less so. Thus, when I decided I needed an agent to for my new detective venture, his name was the first one which sprang to mind!
