Tim Newark biography
Tim Newark is the author of several well-received crime and military history books. In 2007, he published The Mafia at War/Mafia Allies (Greenhill/Zenith), which involved extensive archival research in London, New York, Washington, and Sicily. It was very well reviewed by Mafia authorities and praised for its depth of research. This was followed by his myth-busting biography of legendary gangster Lucky Luciano (St Martin’s Press/Mainstream), now published in paperback in US as Boardwalk Gangster to coincide with the second season of the hit HBO TV series Boardwalk Empire.
Most recently, he has published Highlander (Constable) and Empire of Crime (Mainstream), a pioneering study of organised crime inside the British Empire, which made news headlines in the Daily Mail, Daily Express and Metro with its revelatory stories. He has also worked as a TV scriptwriter and historical consultant, resulting in seven TV documentary series for BBC Worldwide and the History Channel, including the 13-part TV series Hitler’s Bodyguard. He featured in a WMR/Yesterday documentary series, Secret War, talking about the Mafia in World War Two. He has contributed articles and book reviews to the Financial Times, Telegraph and TimeOut.

How I Found the Agency
As editor of Military Illustrated, I had known Andrew for several years as one of the best agents for military history; he represented some of my regular contributors. But it’s only recently that I felt my writing was at the right stage to work with him. His advice has been inspirational and already taken my career to a new level.
