R. J. Q. Adams was born in 1943 and received his Ph. D. degree from the University of California in 1972.
Since 1974 he has been a member of the faculty of history of the Texas A&M University and since 2004 has been Patricia and Bookman Peters Professor of History.
His books include Arms and the Wizard: Lloyd George and the Ministry of Munitions, 1915-1916 (1978); The Conscription Controversy in Great Britain, 1900-1918 (1987, with Philip P. Poirier); British Politics and Foreign Policy in the Age of Appeasement, 1935-39 (1993) and Bonar Law (1999).
