Harold Elletson biography

Harold Elletson is a writer and international affairs consultant, specialising in Russia and Eastern Europe. He is currently Director of The New Security Programme at the Centre for Defence and International Security Studies (CDISS), which conducts research into the implications of the new security environment for civil society. Dr Elletson was also Director of the NATO Forum on Business and Security, a major programme of dialogue between the public and private sectors in NATO countries about the new security environment.

A former Member of Parliament, he served as a member of the Environment Select Committee and as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, during the early stages of the peace process.

A fluent Russian speaker, Harold Elletson has advised many companies on aspects of their business in Russia and Eastern Europe. His first book, 'The General Against the Kremlin' was published by Little, Brown in
1998. He holds a PhD from Bradford University and has been a visiting lecturer at Bilkent University, Turkey. He lives on a farm in Lancashire.
