Revelation of the Devil

For nearly 2,000 years a supernatural entity known as the Devil has been held responsible by the Christian Church for bringing sin and evil into the world. Even today, Christian baptism requires an undertaking to ‘renounce the Devil and all his works’. Although not mentioned in the Jewish Bible, except by way of misapplied Church inference, the Devil is reckoned to be the constant opponent of God.

Since Christianity was founded on a premise of salvation, there necessarily had to be someone from whom to be saved. Thus the Devil, who makes his biblical appearance as a mischievous tempter of Jesus, was brought into the spotlight. He was then strategically associated with an Old Testament son of God called Satan and said to be the guardian of Hell.

The Devil had no personal history beyond Christian teaching, but his demonic reputation grew ever more sinister and menacing as the centuries progressed, reaching its height during the hideous persecutions of sorcerers and witches. Revelation of the Devil seeks to examine this process of development in detail, following the Devil’s fascinating tradition in the manner of a biography, from his scriptural introduction down to the dark satanic cults of the present day.
