James Jennings biography

James Jennings has spent two decades working throughout the world as a simultaneous interpreter, principally for the United Nations and its unruly family of specialised agencies. He has interpreted for Presidents and Prime Ministers from every continent. The particular advantage of the interpreter, he says, is to have a privileged view through a sheet of reflecting glass on the private dealings of the high and mighty.

Born in 1956, he studied English literature at Cambridge University and then languages at the Sorbonne in Paris, before going on to teach at the Sorbonne, the University of Geneva and various institutes in Madrid. His current travels and work entail close contact with international affairs, in particular those of Latin America.

James Jennings lived in Paris, Madrid and Washington DC before settling in a small village in France. He has a large garden where the wild thyme competes with the grass, and four children.
