Ring of Hell is the story of beloved pro wrestling legend Chris Benoit, once the most respected man in World Wrestling Entertainment, who made headlines throughout the world by slaughtering his family in an abrupt and deranged double murder-suicide in June of 2007. It will explore how Chris Benoit chose to inflict unimaginable punishment on his body for over twenty years, leading to severe brain damage, prolonged steroid and drug abuse, and finally a murderous psychotic breakdown – all out of a desire to please his fans and make a name for himself in wrestling history. Ring of Hell will also investigate the bizarre pro wrestling industry and the grotesque physical, psychological, and emotional toll it takes on its athletes and their families.
book reviews
- K. Thor Jensen, author of Red Eye, Black Eye.
"With all the zeal of a back-alley surgeon, Matthew Randazzo V wields the scalpel of reason to flay alive the corrupt, drug-addled, incestuous, racist world of pro wrestling, creating what is probably the first ever history of 'Sports Entertainment' that appeals to somebody besides wrestling fans. Alternately hilarious and depressing ... Ring of Hell is a must-read." - The Wrestling Observer & Total MMA
"It's an amazing story well-told and an honest look inside a brutal and backwards business." - Sports Talk Network.
"Were it not for fact that pro wrestling is the redheaded stepchild of American society, Randazzo would likely be up for a Pulitzer Prize for the journalism contained in this book. ... This book sets a new standard for exposing the truth about pro wrestling, one that may never be topped and certainly won't be anytime soon."
