David Rose Biography

In his long career in journalism, David worked for organisations including the Guardian, the Observer, Vanity Fair, the Mail on Sunday and BBC current affairs television. He was shortlisted seven times in the British Press Awards, and was named Reporter of the Year in 2016 and Feature Writer of the Year in 2018. He is a past winner of the Royal Institute of International Affairs David Watt prize, and is currently research director of the Free Speech Union.

 

A caver since his teens, he is the author of one published novel and six non-fiction books, including Violation (2007), an investigation into a US death penalty miscarriage of justice, which was shortlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association Golden Dagger, Regions of the Heart (1999), a biography of the mountaineer Alison Hargreaves, which won the Trento Mountain Literature Festival grand prize, and Beneath the Mountains (1987), an account of deep cave exploration by David and his teammates in Spain, which won the Tratman award for cave-related literature.
