Kambiz Fattahi Biography

Kambiz Fattahi

Kambiz Fattahi is an investigative journalist and media executive with over two decades of experience at the BBC and other international networks, where he has covered U.S. foreign policy, covert diplomacy, and Middle Eastern affairs. His frontline reporting has taken him to global flashpoints—including the Gaza conflicts of 2012 and 2014—and his exclusive interviews have broken diplomatic ground, including the first-ever Persian-language televised interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, conducted for BBC Persian.

Fattahi is known for blending deep archival research with on-the-ground reporting to uncover buried truths. His investigative work has exposed pivotal, previously undisclosed episodes in U.S.–Iran relations. In 2016, he revealed clandestine American backchannel communications with Ayatollah Khomeini prior to the 1979 Iranian Revolution—reporting that was condemned by Iran’s Supreme Leader and later served as the catalyst for The Betrayal. In 2018, he traced covert financial ties between senior Iranian clerics and Western intelligence agencies, shedding light on a little-known chapter of modern geopolitical history.

He holds a master’s degree in U.S. National Security Studies from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. Fluent in English and Persian, Fattahi brings rare access, rigor, and insight to his work. The Betrayal is his first book.
