    Congratulations to Roger Beam who has won one of the three Jerwood non-fiction awards this year. The £5,000 prize , judged by Clare Armistead, Tristram Hunt and Robert Macfarlane, was awarded for his forthcoming book on SOE in Holland . Previous winners have included Rachel Campbell-Johnson, Daniel Swift, Thomas Wright and Roland Chambers.

    Many congratulations to Peter Forbes who, at a prize-giving at the Royal Festival Hall last night, was awarded this year’s Warwick Prize. The prize “given biennially for an excellent and substantial piece of writing in the English language, in any genre or form” was for his book Dazzled and Deceived.
