Kate Sissons Biography

Kate Sissons

Kate Sissons grew up between London and Oxfordshire in the 1970s, in a publishing family. She went to Burford comprehensive school and then to Goldsmiths College in the 1980s. She worked in newsrooms through the 1990s at the Daily Mail, the London Evening Standard and The Times. She then became a designer/decorator on a substantial Central London property portfolio.

Her three books form a family trilogy. Standing Room Only retells the 1944 book of her grandmother, Elizabeth Fowler, the only woman in a lifeboat with thirty-two men and a boy after their freighter was torpedoed in the mid-Atlantic in 1942. Knee Deep in Knightsbridge is the darkly funny diary memoir of her own traumatic separation, and her two-year fight through the family courts under the Children Act 1989 and against the Child Support Agency. Losing the Plot: D is for Dementia tells how she became carer to her mother, Nicky, the little girl her grandmother was sailing to reach, through Alzheimer's dementia in the Cotswolds and in France through lockdown. She made some films of her mother which have gone on to become a TikTok sensation at Losing the Plot.

She lives in West Oxfordshire.
