Emily Mackenzie’s I Just Want to go Home, a memoir, set principally between 1966 and 1972 , of her childhood recounting beatings by her adopted mother and father, her time in care , her gang-rape and her subsequent life as a prostitute has been bought by Simon & Schuster.

Icon have bought UK rights in Sean McMeekin’s July 1914: Countdown to War which tells the story of Europe’s countdown to war between the bloody opening act on 28 June 1914 and Britain’s final plunge on 4 August . They will tie in with Basic’s US publication next year.

The Sunday Times best-seller list was, I’m told, incorrect and Living Life the Essex Way was actually no 1 last week.

Marina Chapman’s memoir of being brought up by monkeys in the Columbian jungle , already sold to UK, Canadian, Australian and several European publishers, has been bought by Pegasus who will publish next spring.
